An AKtion Club is a service group for adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities. Through volunteering, members learn how to be part of their community by giving to others. They also learn teamwork and leadership skills by planning events.
The club is organized like any other club. The members elect officers, pay dues, select projects, and meet their own financial needs by conducting fund-raisers such as car washes, paper drives, and recycling projects. Some activities benefit the club's community, including environmental projects, park beautification, food drives, and nursing home visitations. AKtion Clubs also assist their sponsoring Kiwanis clubs with projects. In addition, AKtion Clubs take time out for fun. Members visit zoos and museums and go to sporting events.
